same issue on my Asus n46vm with Linux Mint 17 3.13.0-24-generic
NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [GeForce GT 630M]
nvidia drivers: 331.38.0ubuntu7 and updates

it only froze when i was using some web browser like firefox or chromium

i had to go back to the Nouveau driver
