Bug Description

When i alter the title in gnome-terminal with Terminal->Set Title, the new title still says the default "Terminal" it is only after maximizing the window and then de-maximizing it again the new title is shown.

The new title should be visible immidiately after setting it in Terminal->Set Title.

Hi,

I cannot reproduce this problem in my environment. Please provide some information about your environment:

Ubuntu version: (presuming 11.04)
Version of Unity being run: 2d or 3d

Hi,

Ah i already forgot i posted the bug. Thanks for taking the
interest to look .
 after tying unity a while
i went back to gnome2 again, and saw that this bug is also
present in the 3D enviroment of gnome2.

So either this bug is gnome-terminal related or compiz related.
Either way i thing on second thought i think it is out of place in
the unity section.

I still can't reproduce the problem. For me the title resets to the new one straight away. It does sound more likely to be a gnome-terminal bug, so I will move it there, but you still need to help me understand why you are getting this behaviour. I assume your gnome-terminal is GNOME Terminal 2.32.1? Also, I assume this doesn't happen in any other applications (e.g. Firefox, where the title also changes)

affects: unity (Ubuntu) → gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)
affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)

robin@ub01:~$ gnome-terminal --version
GNOME Terminal 2.32.1

When i use metacity as window manager it get changed right away.
When i use compiz as a windowmanager (by selecting it in compiz-fusion)
the title only changes after maximizing the window.

Recently i noticed that the fglrx driver i use had stability problems
(it freezes my desktop
when using compiz every now and then) could this driver also be the
problem with the screen title?

I checked with firefox, which changes the title after visiting a different page.
This works like it should in compiz and in metacity. So it seems gnome-terminal
specific. But like i said, it could very well be the fglrx video
driver in combination
with my
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M92 [Mobility
Radeon HD 4500 Series]

Hello Robin
Are you talking about the name not updated in the upper bar?
Look at the screenshot (name on terminal window isn't egual to upper bar title)
The upper bar just show the name of the application.
Thanks

Hi there,

What i mean is the following (and like i said i discovered it's not
unity specific but it happens
in unity and gnome both when 3d effects are enabled)

screenshot-1 : I open an gnome-terminal and change the title.
screenshot-2 : I clicked OK and the titlebar is not updated.
screenshot-3 : I maximize the gnome-terminal window and the title is updated.
screenshot-4 : I unminimize and the title stays correct.

Since it happens with 3D effects (compiz?) as a constant factor i am thinking
it could maybe be related to the fgrlx.ko video driver... i'll test it
with another video
driver...

kind regards,
