Bug Description

OK--I did a fresh install & set my desktop to use Unity---everything looks OK & works well---except for when I tried to start up UT2004 I ended up with a black screen...I test Gnome Shell regularly & this is not happening--the "bug" in GS is that the upper bar will never go away....

Question is: Has anyone else seen this? I realise this is a corner-case with OpenGL & Unity, but I play Unreal regularly & would hate to do a logout/login to Gnome2 just to play.....

OK--Forum talk is here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1610146

Its starting to look like a problem with Unity & UT2004...anything I should look for? Also, I'm wondering with the change? to Compiz if this will continue to be a problem......

OK--after Unity has run for several hours UT2004 will start & run...window grab is slow/clunky, but it is working...I would say that its a problem with Mutter & my card set--SLI-nvidia 9800GT...closing UT results in a segmentation fault.

I'll set it as incomplete as of now. Do not hesitate to test in natty when alpha1 is out and tell us if the compiz version will hopefully fix the issue for you

Hi Didier---

Have the PPA version installed---OpenGL game (UT2004) opens "normally"--overlay on the side & panel on the top remain (UT is set to open full-screen)--Game played normally until I shut it down..Screen did not release back to desktop & became unresponsive. Needed to hard-reset to regain system, second reboot was garbled, so I did not get a good log from the crash.

Running current Compiz & all system software (as of 11-13-2010)

Well--with the current version of Unity I get:

dean@linux:~/Desktop$ ut2004

Exporting ONS-DryIce-SE.....Successful!
Exporting ONS-Serration.....Successful!
Exporting ONS-FBU-Scorched.....Successful!

Exiting due to error

So now UT2004 will not even start. Anything more you would want me to check?

That error looks like a non-Unity related thing. Could you try and switch to the classic desktop (gnome-panel etc) and see if UT still fails to load?

I have two testing installs--one that is Unity & the other is "Classic" that
I test Gnome-Shell with. UT2004 has no problem under "Classic" or
Gnome-Shell--the only install that I have a problem with UT2004 is the Unity
install (both my testing installs were created on the same day & both are
regularly updated within minutes of each other).

So The only difference I see is Unity.

I need to add that I take great care to maintain both installs to the same
software..I just do not have the Unity plug-in turned on in my "Classic"
install.

So when you say you have two installs, do you mean two separate computers, two partitions, or two sessions. I'm unclear. If it's not the same partition or computer, please try logging into classic with the computer that has Unity, and running UT.

Same here, using teeworlds 0.6 beta. After playing Desktop does not refresh in appropriate way.
Same thing if you wait to start the screensaver then resume the session.

Graphic Card: nVidia 7300 go
Graphic Driver: Nuoveau
OS: Ubuntu Natty Beta 2

Sorry but i don't know how and where to get the error log.

I can confirm that coming out of an OpenGL application with an NVidia NVS 285 card running the 173 drivers causes the refresh rate of compiz/unity to be completely rubbish. Switching on/off Sync-to-VBlank in compiz-OpenGL settings does nothing to resolve the issue. The only way to resolve is to logout/login again and get a new session.

Confirmed this occurs when exiting from the following applications:

- GLMatrix Screensaver (or any other GL screensaver)
- Minecraft (which uses java GL libraries)
- AssaultCube

NOTES: I'm running nvidia-173 drivers because there is a bug in the newer ones that prevents more than 4 windows being displayed.. see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/747717 for more details.

Not sure if this is a Compiz bug or a Unity bug, but I know that I don't get the issue in Unity-2D or Ubuntu-classic sessions.
