I've also encountered a similar error. However, I know that this is because my corporate firewall is blocking Ubuntu one. For e.g. when I click on System > Preferences > Ubuntu One > Manage Accounts, the browser opens up and displays the proxy page "You are not allowed access to this site".
What I would like to request, however, is that this condition is trapped and an appropriate error message shown. Currently the error message is cryptic (for non-developers) and refers to a line of source code.
