By 'does not run', do you mean you click on the UbuntuOne menu item and nothing shows up? If so, please run:
$ ps aux | grep ubuntuone
if there is a process called ubuntuone-client-applet, the applet is running, but you probably don't have a system tray in your KDE panel/dock. The ubuntuone-client-applet is indeed a system tray icon, a "protocol" that is supported by both KDE and GNOME, so if you have a system tray, it should show up there when you run it.
