Installation in Kubuntu Karmic. I think not all deps are there. Install seems fine, but does not run.

Well, the client seems to be running, but it seems to need nautilus AFAICT.

By 'does not run', do you mean you click on the UbuntuOne menu item and nothing shows up? If so, please run:
$ ps aux | grep ubuntuone
if there is a process called ubuntuone- client- applet, the applet is running, but you probably don't have a system tray in your KDE panel/dock. The ubuntuone- client- applet is indeed a system tray icon, a "protocol" that is supported by both KDE and GNOME, so if you have a system tray, it should show up there when you run it.
If this is not the case, please open a terminal and run:
$ updateone- client- applet
and paste to this bug all the output you see
