I think I had a similar problem. After a couple of contacts it stopped sync with an error. I had to delete all contacts (data from ubuntu one contacs under preferences->applications) and then import them again from a previously saved vcard. Then it started to work again.

Probably this solves your problem as well, but I agree, this issue should be fixed.
