Wow!   Thank you so much!    I look forward to the day when I can "fix" something like this on my own.
I was thinking of taking a beginner class in C++ this summer.  Right now I am reading a book on shell scripting and it is GREAT!   Any suggestions?

I had this same trouble in Jaunty.  At my job we get sent these pdf documents that don't seem to work in evince.  They work fine with adobe acrobat reader.  Attached is an example with all of the confidential information removed.
