Bug Description

Binary package hint: shared-mime-info

I saved out test files for every format that MS Access 2007 supports saving and used gvfs-info to report what it thought about each file. It appears that the MS Access 2007 format itself is not supported yet. I will attach a zip file with all formats MS Access 2007 can save out to:

This one needs to be improved:

example - Microsoft Office Access 2007 Database.accdb : application/octet-stream - application/octet-stream

I will also have additional bugs for Excel/PowerPoint/Word file formats.

Thanks!

Chris Cheney

This bug is about the fact that shared-mime-info doesn't know what type of file an Access 2007 file is, so when you click on it, it thinks it is a 'octet-stream' file instead of something more usable like 'vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.database' or something along those lines...

I think that I understood your idea: the objective is "know" what file is. "Work" with the file or "open" this file is a openoffice's ( koffice, abiword etc) problem ( a big ooxml problem - ISO raped :)

Hi, should we mark this linked bugs as duplicate off bug #138252 or viceversa? it seems that this set of bugs are being worked on??

This is actually a different issue, #138252 is discussing a different filetype, and it looks like the fix has already been released.

Have you actually _read_ the text? The first two sentences are: "These article describes how to connect to a Microsoft Access database file, if you use a MS Windows operating system. For other systems the solutions are not yet finished." ("not yet finished" should better be replaced by "not even started")

http://www.libreoffice.org/features/ is misleading, unfortunately. It should state that MS Access DB driver is only available on Windows. (It should also not mention Adabas, because the code has been removed and it is not clear if it had ever been compiled anyway.)
