try this

For Ubuntu 8.04 Linux ATI Radeon Drivers.

 Here you go follow just like it says to or it will not work right. ( and no terminal is not terminal)

1. Install Linux, if you have not already done so. (if you have already installed drivers for your card in Linux and they are not working see step #11 on the How-To.)
2. Go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx and download drivers to your desktop. (make sure to make this file executable.)
3. On desktop text upper left side go to /System/Admin/Hardware drivers and enable card do not restart at this time.
4. On desktop text upper left side go to /Applications/Accessories/Terminal
5. Type -----------> cd Desktop
6. Type -----------> dir
7. Type -----------> sudo ./ATI_DRIVER
8. Install driver
9. Wait a long time
10.Restart

Tell me if you have any problems IRC room #ubuntu

                                                                                                     I hope I have helped you.
