Hello Chris:
    My solution is install the Ubuntu 8.10 from VESA mode. After that
add the XaaNoImageWriteRect in xorg.conf and remove the VESA mode. And
reboot the system and the Openchrome driver works.

I can't tell from your last response whether the issue was resolved by
adding the XaaNoImageWriteRect option to your xorg.conf. Could you
please confirm whether this is (or is not) the case?

Bug description:
Ubuntu 8.10 RC is unable to be run under P4 2.4G CPU + VN896 chipset.
The system will hang when running Ubuntu 8.10 RC.
