wow. this is obviously a problem for a number of people, so it is disappointing that the ubuntu developer reaction is to discount and invalidate this bug. we are all trying to help make ubuntu better, why be dismissive about that?

since the graphics is crashing, it is extremely difficult to capture dmesg or the i915_error_state. but i did get lucky and managed to get in a virtual terminal after about 20 minutes of rebooting and trying. attached please find the three requested attachments (next two in next posts--how do you add multiple attachments?).
