Same problem: UBUNTU logo shows, progress bar reaches the end, then the system hangs. Sometimes a black screen, sometimes some garbled pixels, sometimes a message that X couldn't start followed by a blinking cursor and no access to the command line.

I've got an AMD64 system, but I'm installing the i386 version of Edgy.

Processor: AMD64 3400+
Motherboard: DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D
Video Card: ATI Radeon X800 XL
