I have disabled Compiz ages ago - love the effects and all, but it makes the system even more unstable as freezes occur more frequently. For me it is not question of bling bling or other fanzy effects, but right now I just like to have an Ubuntu that is stable and actually useful.

In my opinion, this error also reveals how slow the debugging is going with Ubuntu. I mean the system freezes for a lot of users for some 4-5 months now (I think this forum proves that) and still there is no update or fix available. I am wondering if anyone is actually looking into this error. Again if this is the rate errors are debugged and fixed in Ubuntu environment, then I must say I'd prefer XP on that point. I mean what happens next time an error of this size hits the fan, must we all wait 6 months with a useless Ubuntu meanwhile, before the error is fixed - I certainly hope not.

Right now people are using various kinds of workarounds by reverting back to old drivers and packages etc. depending on their hardware configuration, just to survive in Ubuntu.

I am not to happy to revert to XP, but at least it is stable to the point of not freezing the entire system spontaneously.

Sorry for my outburst again, but Ubuntu IS better that this :-))
