Wait, so.. because the 3D bling-bling desktop doesn't work, you're recommending people use Windows XP? Did I completely misunderstand something, or are you actually spouting gibberish?

Damn, if I had abandoned Windows every time something broke down, I wouldn't have made it past Win 3.11.

If you can't get work done because Compiz keeps crashing, here's an idea: DISABLE COMPIZ!
It's not like it's a vital part of Ubuntu, especially on a freakin' laptop with integrated graphics chips. Oh, and just for the record, ATI's proprietary drivers for Windows aren't much better. It appears that ATI just doesn't understand their own hardware well enough to actually write a driver for it.

As for an OS being inferior with regards to basic operations that others have mastered decades ago, I have just one word: Viruses.
