xrdp only showing bare X11 background, installed lightdm ignored

Install minimal graphical Ubuntu 14.04, then xrdp. Connect to running xrdp using mstsc or rdesktop, freerdp. You are prompted for username and password by xrdp choosen "sesman-Xvnc". After successfully logged in you are shown a bare X11 background.

x-session-manager hangs executing some perl script:

Hi folks

Looks like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xrdp/+bug/1326273 , which is more detailed, is actually a duplicate of this bug - so I've taken the liberty of marking the other one as such.

The same thing happens on 14.10 running 0.6.1-1 and makes the xrdp service pretty much unusable, so this really needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. :(

Anything I, or anyone else, can do to help (e.g. more diagnostics?) Wish I could still code! :(

I think this is the same issue as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1251281 which is seeing some action.

Sounds like this is a dupe and could well be already fixed in lp:#1251281. Is this bug still a problem?
