I can't reproduce any segfaults here. Can you provide more information:
* When does the segfault happen: During song change, changing
colume/balance or somewhere other?
* Is this 100% reproducable?
* Does it (only) happen with a special song?
* Does the file contain national characters. (Please provide the "File
Info" data if possible)
* What locale do you use? (Output of "locale")
* Does it also segfault with "LC_ALL=C xmms /your/files"?
* Which fonts do you have available (xlsfonts)

Your reported alignment problem is fixed with 2.2.9.0-1 available from pint.pmhahn. de/pmhahn/ debian/ sid/x/xosd/
