In 16.04 the stretching issue is resolved. However, the display manager is still a bit buggy. It switched to mirrored displays when I tried to turn on both displays. However after exiting the manager and re-opening it. I was able to get both displays working correctly. Another issue is that the other display is a HDTV and I need to adjust the underscan on it. When I do that it also underscans the laptop's screen.
