My workaround with special PPAs works now!

After the last round of upgrades to the special PPAs of inkscape and xorg, the problem seems to have disappeared - I can click into workspace without crashing Inkscape

inkscape-trunk:
  Installed: 1:0.48+devel+11922+32~quantal1

xserver-xorg-core:
  Installed: 2:1.13.0.901+git20121123+server-1.13-branch.c0e68f8e-0ubuntu0ricotz~quantal

Please let me know if you need further testing/info
