Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

Im' testing hardy heron, and vlc don't load the subtitles. Totem read correctly. To make they read, i need to remove all spaces, all special characters (like hyphens) and all caps from the avi/srt. ie. a subtitle called 'Glass and wine' don't open, i need to rename they for 'glassandwine'

After this vlc find and load the subtitle, but some words or phrases don't appear. Then, i need to open the file containing the subtitle (.srt in my case) and save it again with other encoding (western - iso8859-15). Then i need to open in vlc -> Preferences -> Input / Codecs -> Other codecs -> Subtitles, Subtitle text and put the same encoding (western - iso8859-15).

vlc: 0.86e

Confirming. In Hardy Heron VLC doesn't load subtitles at all. Also right-click menu doesn give you option for turning on subtitles.

VLC loads subtitles correctly, but only if you use "File > Quick Open File..." or "File > Open File...".

Changing line 11 in /usr/share/applications/vlc.desktop from

Exec=vlc %U

to

Exec=vlc %F

seems to fix the problem.

That did the trick Berk, thanks.

But u don't need to open it every time using the "File >" menu. Just double clicking the file also works for me.

well...

Can Berk Güder's tip worked for turning the Subtitle menu on, but still no subtitles being loaded.

i'll try it with the no-caps-no-hyphens file and subtitle names, but i'd still appreciate if this wouldn't be needed, as previous versions worked fine.
