I meant to say that the issue is closed for me (perhaps I should have chosen rejected but I wanted this to stay on the record in case it could help other users).
Indeed no fix has been released, and I think there should be one.
I think the simplest would be to add vga=normal in the relevant lines of the boot CD /isolinux/isolinux.cfg (this is how it was done in edgy btw) and in the installed menu.lst.
