Bug Description

Binary package hint: feisty-session-splashes

Feisty Herd 5 crashes on my PC (AMD 64 FX55, ATI X800XT PE) after selecting the nominal boot option both from a CD install or after successful installation on HD.

I guess this is related to splash as if I remove "quiet splash" from the boot command line everything is ok!?

I can provide more info if needed.

PS> Note that to modify the command line is a bit tricky, as the standard config is to hide the grub menu (ESC should be pressed in a time window of a couple of secs).

Solved by selecting a framebuffer mode (in my case I've choosen 1280x1024/24b = 0x31B).

Added following line to defoptions: vga=795

My apologies if I made a mistake Brian.
I meant to say that the issue is closed for me (perhaps I should have chosen rejected but I wanted this to stay on the record in case it could help other users).
Indeed no fix has been released, and I think there should be one.

I think the simplest would be to add vga=normal in the relevant lines of the boot CD /isolinux/isolinux.cfg (this is how it was done in edgy btw) and in the installed menu.lst.

Thanks for your help and support.

Since it is possible that other people may have a similar issue it is best to leave the bug open so they can find it when searching for bugs and so it can be looked at by a developer. Incidentally could you please add the output of 'sudo lspci -vv' and 'sudo lspci -vvn' to help us troubleshoot this better? Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is already being experienced by several other people. Marking as duplicate of 86666. See more information there, especially towards the end (any vga=NNN parameter works, but for some weird reason without it it always hangs).
