I think your posts are not correct.
a) apt-get doesn't have 'dist-update'
It has 'dist-upgrade'
b) According to the 'man apt-get' dist-upgrade is not about distro update, but "also intelligently handles changing dependencies with new versions of packages"
(Or do you mean changing /etc/apt/sources.list by hands?)
c) do-release-upgrade -d
-d, --devel-release
Check if upgrading to the latest devel release is possible

If I'm on Lucid (with Prompt=lts on /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades) and run 'do-release-upgrade -d' it will upgrade to the next LTS which is Precise. I asked upgrading from Lucid to the Maverick, which only needs changing Prompt=normal.
