i am having the same problem, i just installed 10.04 and it looks like i had a problem with the paulsbo kernel. update manager then offered an upgrade to 10.10 which i accepted. the upgrade failed. i followed your instructions above, capturing the errors in updateErr1, updateErr2 and updateErr3, which i zipped since only 1 attachment could be added below.
