*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 154771 ***

**WARNING** INSANE NEWBIE AT WORK... but if sanity is optional for you, and
you're the inquisitive type, read on!
Installed Ubuntu 7.04 from shipit CD in its' own partition to dual-boot
w/WinXPSP2; subsequently updated 7.04 online, no apparent probs, except
updater did NOT prompt for upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10. Being a Gutsy Glutton for
punishment & al., as well as habitually curious, I used the extra 7.04
install 2nd chance/backup partition I had preserved on my HD to install
Kubuntu 7.10 from CD to try it out as well (single HD, GRUB-controlled
tri-boot: Ubuntu 7.04, Kubuntu 7.10 & WinXPSP2).
Post-install 1st update of Kubuntu 7.10 stopped in the middle w/ error,
then insisted an "upgrade" to 7.10 (!) was available, apparently in lieu of
the slew of updates Adept updater had downloaded previously for
Kubuntu7.10. Scratched my chin momentarily, said "OK - let's see what this
does" - oughta be fun, right?
"Upgrade" from Kubuntu 7.10 to Kubuntu 7.10 'completed,' then error pop-up
states
"Your system is up-to-date
There are no upgrades available for your system. The
upgrade will now be canceled"
Hope this helps in updating the Help for the hopeless (a.k.a.: hack
newbies like myself!)
For what it's worth, since the OSes all had their own separate HD
partitions, I think the Kubuntu 7.10 Adept updater/upgrader definitely has
the bug you guys have described more succinctly than I; I don't see how it
may have mistaken any Ubuntu 7.04 stuff in a separate partition &
subsequently tried to "upgrade" Ubuntu 7.04 to Kubuntu 7.10 & then changed
it's mind to not "upgrade" Kubuntu 7.10 to Kubuntu 7.10 at the last moment;
but since I went ahead and attempted this rather redundant (& perhaps a bit
silly) 'tri-boot undocumented option', and have verbosely publically
epistled it on this friendly tech forum, obviously my brain cells have just
been wiped & my mind's as out of place as a boiled egg in a koala bear's
bum.
   Thoughts?
