Being more responsive is more important than being fast. Optimization would help, but on a slow device it wouldn't solve the problem of *feeling* slow.

Perhaps the first-run setup could follow a pattern similar to -- or exactly the same as -- the one I specified for System Settings. <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemSettings#navigation-feedback> That is, if the next screen hasn't loaded within two seconds of you tapping the button, the screen appears anyway, just without any contents. After another three seconds, if it still hasn't loaded, as a last resort, a spinner appears in the middle of the screen.
