Bug Description

Setting the `Panel Opacity` option in CCSM to a value lower than 1.0 makes the blurred background of every Unity overlay (HUD, the dash, the alt-tab switcher, etc.) to be drawn partially transparent so that unblurred content shows through. The two attached screenshots show the effect of the bug at `Panel Opacity` set to 90% and 50% respectively.

@Bilal did you try to reproduce the bug when confirming?

I tried with nvidia and a Sandy Bridge system the issue did not happen but with a netbook with an old GPU I can reproduce the bug.

You may want to look at this bug I have -
in this case quicklists opacity is affected by the panel opacity

The 'cause' of this is the png plugin

thanks for your bug report. Is that still an issue in fully updated Ubuntu 12.04? I can't reproduce it here.

Yes, this is still an issue on the original system I reported the bug from (using an old Intel 945GM card). It does not affect my newer, Intel HD Graphics 2000 based system, however. (I suspect the cause might be the 945GM using the non-GLSL code path, which seems to be a bit neglected compared to the GLSL one.)

I am going to test on a similar hardware and see if it happens for me.
