My intel laptop hasn't really gotten much better. It's not the really badly affected one (it was the nvidia desktop), but it's not up to the performance of Mutter.

As Florin stated, it has been snappier (though animations have an odd tendency to be slow-motion as the system load is higher).

I'm sorry that I can't report on my desktop for a while :/.
