I am affected as well. Dual monitors, Intel graphics, Chrome was open. Happens randomly. Sometime the password box is still visible on one screen, but not on the other. When it disappears on both screens, only the unity --replace and compiz --replace methods mentioned above will allow me to get back to my desktop.
