Bug Description

May be similar to Bugs 984184 on Xubuntu and 978489 on Lubuntu a few days ago. Syslog indicates an error this time - I'm not a developer, is it a python problem?

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I installed the system with
ubiquity --no-migration-assistant
the installer finished but without telling me "installation successful"
i installed manually grub, created my user and passwords
after that I purged all ubiquity* packages remained on the system...
I don't know why the installer have done this but I do this workaround.

just reran install of 12.04 from original iso burnt on dvd ( cd's just wont boot) it failed and opened desktop. ctrl alt f2 term and did
'sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu' . ( what the heck is that)
it installed fine this time. figures the cute bells and whistles screwed up the install once again. I guess not enough ram to make pretty and run whats necessary at same time.
installs should check ram and run what can. not everybody has the latest and greatest mega machine like the guys that write the install packs. It took me forever to actually find the alternate dloads on the ubuntu site. sigh if it says you can find the alternate install some where they should give a link to that some where not just a general note they can be found ...... and give no links besides the torrents or older versions. it finally crashed some how and dumped me to a text page that had text that turned out to be links.

I had the same bug on xubuntu distribution.
The solution: start your livecd, choose "try ubuntu without installing"
Once the office to open the terminal and remove the package ubiquity-slideshow-xubuntu:

sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-xubuntu

You can then start the installation by clicking on the icon located on the desktop

Enjoy :)

Thanks for sharing the fix, it worked like a charm for me too. Good thing I found this before hitting my head against the wall: I was going nuts!
Certainly, if a lot of people realized this problem they should have released an .iso without the sideshow to prevent this problem. It doesn't make sense to make people go crazy if there's already a solution out there.

Once more, thanks guys!
