Bug Description

I've tested the live CD of 20th May, choosing Portuguese (pt) in the first boot screen. I've found the following strange i18n problems related to Ubiquity, specially because the translations were already merged a while ago:

1. Desktop Icon "Install" does not appear translated although is translated and merged in Rosetta;
2. Cancel, Back and Forward buttons do not appear translated all throughout the installation steps (after choosing Portuguese in Ubiquity first screens);
3. In step 6, in the report of what is going to be installed, only the last three lines are translated and all the rest is in English;

Some work from the translators is missing or the problem is in the Ubiquity side?
Thanks.

Rui Az.

Also happens with Finnish with the latest daily-live. Cancel, Back and Forward are not translated, while they've been translated in the GTK (from where they reportedly should come from) for a long time.

It seems the button texts are translated only for the major languages?

Same with German. I tried beta 1, beta 2 and flight 7, and in all of them, the installer's "Forward", "Back" and some other buttons remained English, though the language was changed to German and the other texts were translated to German correctly. Though I haven't tried, I suppose this error doesn't depend on the chosen language but occurs in every language other than English.

I just tried again with today's daily build (2006-05-22): As I supposed, this error occurs in every language other than English. Though, from step 2 to 5, the buttons are translated correctly. Only in step 1, the "Forward" and "Back" and "Cancel" buttons aren't translated, and in step 6, the "Install" button isn't translated (Though, "Back" and "Cancel" are correctly translated in step 6 ...).

Additionally, the text down left, indicating which step you're just taking ("Step 1 of 6", "Step 2 of 6", and so on), isn't translated in any of the 6 steps, and in step 6, there are some additional tradition issues (see the attached picture).

I haven't seen the Finnish translations for buttons in any step.

Ok, got the button translations now after first step (language packs were added to the live-cd). So remaining issues for me are:
- the wrong texts in the first step (button texts don't change when changing language)
- "Install"-icon on the desktop is not translated even though it's translated in ubiquity-package in Rosetta.
- "Install"-button in the last step is not translated
- most of the other texts in the last step are not translated either

Same remaining issues in Portuguese as in last Timo's comments.

I renamed the bug title. The "Install" with its description is still not translated in Ubuntu 7.04, daily development builds.

Is it going to be fixed finally?

The problem only happens on the live-CD, and it happens for every .desktop file that is copied to the Desktop. The translations are there, but they are not shown.

Seems to happen with every language (tested French and Finnish), and does not occur on an installed system. What could be different between a live system and an installed system.

Added nautilus, but purely guessing. Something is preventing the translations from being shown, and it's surely not ubiquity itself.

As a related note, especially towards the other pieces in the original bug report, the final "Install" button on the last page of the installer is not translated. This is clearly a problem still in ubiquity.

Confirming, bug #95883 was open on nautilus about that. I discussed with Martin about it, removing the .desktop X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain makes the translation being used

Good to know it's been acknowledged. Meanwhile, I created bug 103925 about the missing Install-button translation in ubiquity, which means this bug's there only for the menu item "Install" translation, like the subject says nowadays.

As of today's live CDs with the new langpacks, the icon is now translated, for the languages we ship on the CDs.

As all the installation program translations are included regardless of the langpacks, it'd be nice to have the icon translated also for those languages for which langpacks are not included on the CD.
