Ran into the same bug, on kubuntu netbook remix.
I for one think it warrants a re-release of the .iso, since everyone will hit by this bug. Just threw in the freshly downloaded .iso, clicked 'install', and there it hang. Really must not happen. It will turn off/away >90% of the uninitiated.

It points to 2 quality issues in Ubuntu, aside from the existence of this bug:

1. We've had exactly the same with some earlier release; when network needed to be disconnected for the install to run through. Things may go wrong, but not all the time ... .

2. It is only common sense, to define time-outs. At least for non-essential parts of the install process.

(3. Even a failed apt-configure must not consume 80% of CPU or whatnot is mentioned further up.

4. 'Skip' must actually do what it says.)
