I can confirm that on Intel E6750 platform, GA-P35-DS3 mobo and Gigabyte 8600GT card the fix by Orange2k works (plus startup-manager of course).
Startup manager did not work by itself, I think it's adding the modules to initram.

Thanks Orange2k! I've been intimidated by the lack of usplash since the day Gutsy final came out!
