Just letting you know that I switched my father's computer from Ubuntu to Xubuntu and used the official Xubuntu alternative CD and his USplash still doesn't show. He has a HP Pavilion 503n with a 22" widescreen monitor. My own "fix" by using startupmanager and setting the resolution to 640x480 @ 8bits worked (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/150930/comments/18).

I'm merely posting this to let everyone know it's still occurring.
