I'm sorry to those whose USplash still isn't working. I was merely offering a "quick fix" and it only seems to be working on half of the machines that have tried.

I hope the diffs will present some useful information to the devs, but I'm sure there is a lot of data they need as well -- CPU architecture, monitor model, whether you have a fresh install of Gusty or an upgrade, etc. but also in more detail than "Intel P4 640, Dell 1905FP, upgrade".

At least they can see that as my 49th comment hits -- with 21 subscribers watching -- that this is a serious issue.

Don't forget to try "sudo update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r`" as well, as this, well, updates your initramfs :-p.

If that doesn't work, I'd try a fresh install of Gusty to help the dev out. But ONLY if you're willing.

If THAT doesn't help, run:

$ cat /proc/meminfo > ~/meminfo.txt && cat /proc/cpuinfo > cpuinfo.txt && lspci -v > ~/lspci.txt

and post the three files it created. But please do this ONLY after a fresh install and IF your USplash is still broken.
