Try following magic first...
sudo apt-get install xine-ui && xine --auto-scan dvd --auto-play=fhq
--no-splash

Try following magic first...
sudo apt-get install xine-ui && xine --auto-scan dvd --auto-play=fhq
--no-splash
...to work around the problem.
