Problem does not exist in Ubuntu 11.04, 64Bit; I'm using Thunderbird version 3.1.10 w/o Lightning installed because a 64Bit version is not available. It is also working in Firefox 5.0 with multiple tabs opened. Apparently Lightning is the culprit.
