Thunderbird 3.0 beta 2 has all changes up to late February, which includes bug 436615 but potentially not all follow-up patches. It won't have the disk cache enabled, for example; I don't know which relevant patches may be missing. Nightlies are "per definition" unstable, but you could use a test profile and some free IMAP account where you do not mind the (unlikely but possible) case of loosing data.
