Thunderbird uses libcanberra to play sound but the 3.34 gnome framework build was not including the right driver for that to work correctly. The issue was already fixed in 3.38 but we backported the change to 3.34 now, you should be able to verify by doing

$ sudo snap refresh --candidate gnome-3-34-1804
