Steps to reproduce:

Run `GTK_USE_PORTAL=1 thunderbird`

Actual results:

Thunderbird crashes on startup

Expected results:

Thunderbird should not crash, or at least fail gracefully if running with GTK_USE_PORTAL=1 is not supported.
