While it does have the problem of allowing the user to modify their own fingerprints, I think that the alternatives result in code that isn't sufficiently tested or stable enough to support for an LTS.
I think we should accept thinkfinger for hardy, and migrate to a better fprint-based solution for 8.10 when we've had time to do more testing. The fingerprint files are migratable.
