I've had the same problem with daily Maverick after running "sudo tasksel install lamp-server": "tasksel: aptitude failed (100)".

I tried to follow above instruction and run "sudo apt-get update".
The last line of response was:
"E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem."

Finally "sudo dpkg --configure -a" solved the problem.
