When you see the keyboard icon, please:
- press a key
- select a keymap
- browse the menus to change your boot options
- remove both 'quiet' and 'splash' from the kernel commandline
- boot
and tell us what you see. Do you still get an empty black screen in that case? Or do you get a wall of text? If you wait a few minutes, do you eventually get a graphical screen (without first seeing a splash)? If you wait the same amount of time with a normal boot, do you see the same graphical screen?
