If I use the Repositories option in synaptic to add universe, it does
not automatically download the Packages for universe. I have to
explicitly say `Reload' and there is no indication that this is the
case.

It would be nice if it automatically did Reload, or perhaps offered
to, or something.

Ian.

Thanks for your bugreport.

It should have displayed a dialog that the repository infomration changed and you have to click "reload". Did it do that?

Thanks,
 Michael

Not that I noticed. I will check this again in another one of my test
cycles.

So I had the chance to try it again and this time I did see such a
dialogue - telling me to click "reload". I must have ignored it
before because of the prevalence of silly dialogues.

However, I would like to suggest an improvement. If you go to System
/ Software Sources, and change them, it offers to do the update right
there and then. So if you just say "yes" to everything asking you for
permission it works nicely for you.

Perhaps synaptic should be made to do the same ? (Perhaps better yet,
just do it without asking. Why would you say "no"?)

I'll downgrade this bug to wishlist.

Ian.

I totally agree with the original poster and I suggest you make it an option in Synaptic preferences.

There has been some discussion about this here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3786228#post3786228. Some suggest that users in narrow band connections might desire to keep things as they are, but it's definitely bothersome for people on broadband access to click twice (first OK in the dialog box, then Reload) for an obvious choice.
