Dave,

No, I don't know how to build from source...  If you could tell me where to get the songwrite2 source code and how to build from it, I'd like to learn.....

Thanks!!

I get the same error in Ubuntu Precise/12.04 . I'll try and work on
packaging songwrite2 in a PPA, but I'm not the greatest packager, so no
promises. You can probably build songwrite2 from source if you know how
to do things like that.

Title:
  SongWrite crashes before it even opens

Status in “songwrite” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I just installed songwrite from the software center.

  When I try to run it from the launcher, it just sits there and does
  nothing.

  If i try to run it from the command line, i get "struct.error: byte
  format requires -128 <= number <= 127"

  I installed timidity before I installed this - was that the wrong
  order or something?

  Thanks!!!
