Bug Description

I just installed songwrite from the software center.

When I try to run it from the launcher, it just sits there and does nothing.

If i try to run it from the command line, i get "struct.error: byte format requires -128 <= number <= 127"

I installed timidity before I installed this - was that the wrong order or something?

Thanks!!!

I get the same error in Ubuntu Precise/12.04 . I'll try and work on packaging songwrite2 in a PPA, but I'm not the greatest packager, so no promises. You can probably build songwrite2 from source if you know how to do things like that.

Dave,

No, I don't know how to build from source...  If you could tell me where to get the songwrite2 source code and how to build from it, I'd like to learn.....

Thanks!!

For anyone looking to build songwrite2, these commands should work. I'm not sure what dependencies are needed, so if you encounter an error, it's probably because you're missing some package.

sudo apt-get install python-all-dev
cd ~/
mkdir songwrite2
cd songwrite2/
wget http://download.gna.org/songwrite/EditObj2-0.4.tar.gz
tar xzf EditObj2-0.4.tar.gz
cd EditObj2-0.4/
sudo python setup.py install
cd ../
wget http://download.gna.org/songwrite/Songwrite2-0.4.1.tar.gz
tar xzf Songwrite2-0.4.1.tar.gz
cd Songwrite2-0.4.1/
sudo python setup.py install
