Vincent, I completely agree. The clock is ticking and the official release date is fast approaching. If Ubuntu is to be widely adopted, then basic things like installing from a .deb package with the software center need to work flawlessly 100% of the time.

At the very least, can we include in the error message the exact command needed to install through the commandline? For instance, I just had this problem when installing google-talkplugin. I should get a message that says something like "The Software Center could not install this for you. Try running `sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/google-talkplugin-current_amd64.deb` in a terminal." This would at least empower the users who are not deathly afraid of commandline interfaces.
