I am also having by this problem, this is effecting all users of the beta.

all users should right click on the ".deb" files, and then hover over "open with" then pick "GDebi Package Installer"

it takes less time to instal something than using the software center, my cpu is under hevery load using software center but "GDebi Package Installer" installer the package faster with less load, Ill be using this installer more offen,
