I am on Intrepid (i386) now. Sometimes, the scanner works, but most of the time, I get an error in dmesg like this

many times repeated.

My current kernel: Linux 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 24 06:42:44 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux.
