OK, the vendor and product ID are known to /etc/hotplug/usb/libsane.usermap, but
let's check:
* What is the output of 'ls -l /proc/bus/usb/001'?
* does 'sudo scanimage -l' work? (i. e. as root)
* does it work when you power on the scanner when the computer is already booted?
